shutterstock 202652488Translation management platform Smartling has acquired fellow translation technology provider VerbalizeIt in an effort to expand Smartling’s translation capabilities for audio, video and other multimedia content.

With the acquisition Smartling customers will now be able to:

  • Transcribe and translate audio files;
  • Make their media content more searchable and accessible for a global audience with localized captions and subtitles; and
  • Access live interpretation services.

“VerbalizeIt is a world-class technology startup offering industry-leading translation technology for multimedia content,” said Jack Welde, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Smartling, in an interview with Demand Gen Report. “Its technology complements our own enterprise translation management platform offerings, so the decision [to acquire the company] was an easy one.”

Welde adds that in addition to the new capabilities, Smartling also has gained VerbalizeIt’s staff. “VerbalizeIt’s Co-Founders, Ryan Frankel and Kunal Sarda, are extremely influential entrepreneurs and savvy business leaders, and their insight and experience will help us drive our own global growth,” he added. Frankel is tasked with developing channel and partnership alliances, while Sarda will focus on the product experience for customers and translators.

The announcement marks Smartling’s second acquisition this year. In April, the company acquired Jargon, a mobile technology firm that enables global brands to localize their mobile applications.

“We continue to augment the technology offerings within our enterprise translation management platform, which has resulted in the premier end-to-end global content solution for ambitious brands with international operations or expansion aspirations,” Welde concluded.
