High Alpha Taps Former Salesforce Marketing Cloud CEO For Advisory Position

Published: January 18, 2017

High Alpha, a venture capital firm, announced it has hired Scott McCorkle as Executive In Residence, a newly-created position. The announcement comes roughly five months after McCorkle stepped down as CEO of Salesforce’s Marketing Cloud division.

McCorkle will be working with and advising High Alpha Studio portfolio companies, all of which are B2B SaaS organizations, according to the company. He will also be tasked with sharing his product and engineering expertise to the firm’s product development, as well as helping discover and develop future investments, the company said in a press release.

The appointment reunites McCorkle with Scott Dorsey, Managing Partner at High Alpha, and previously founder of ExactTarget. The partners within the firm — Kristian Andersen, Mike Fitzgerald and Eric Tobias — also held senior-level positions at ExactTarget.

“Scott will be instrumental in helping us scale our existing portfolio companies, as well as develop new breakout ideas and companies,” said Scott Dorsey, Managing Partner at High Alpha, in the release.

Prior to Salesforce, McCorkle was President of Technology and Strategy at ExactTarget. He succeeded Dorsey as the company’s CEO in June 2014. In that same month, Salesforce announced that it would acquire ExactTarget for $2.5 billion, and McCorkle was named CEO of the newly christened Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

“After Salesforce, I was looking to return to the startup world, and working with High Alpha is a perfect fit,” said McCorkle, in a statement.
